Can I drink milk while taking iron supplements?
Disease description:
I’ve been married for six months and am currently preparing for pregnancy. Prior to conception, I underwent a health checkup and was found to have iron deficiency and mild calcium deficiency. My doctor prescribed only an iron supplement, which I’ve been taking for several days. I’d like to boost my calcium intake by drinking milk—may I drink milk while taking the iron supplement?
When taking iron supplements, avoid drinking milk as much as possible. Consuming milk together with iron supplements can impair iron absorption. If you wish to drink milk, wait at least two hours after taking your iron supplement. Eating foods rich in vitamin C enhances iron absorption. Additionally, you may increase your intake of iron-rich foods, such as Chinese cabbage and dried shrimp.
