What Causes Perforated Acute Appendicitis?
Disease description:
This morning, I experienced abdominal pain and went to the hospital for evaluation, where I was diagnosed with acute appendicitis with perforation. What causes acute appendicitis with perforation?
The cause of perforated acute appendicitis is the progression to severe appendicitis due to inadequate or absent aggressive anti-infective treatment during the course of appendicitis. Common types of perforated appendicitis include:
- Gangrenous appendicitis, resulting from ischemia of the appendix leading to necrosis of the appendiceal wall and eventual perforation;
- Suppurative appendicitis, in which abundant pus accumulation during suppuration exacerbates the inflammatory process, ultimately causing necrosis and perforation of the appendix.
