How Long Is the Human Intestine?
Disease description:
During an exam, I encountered a question about the human intestine, and I’d like to know exactly how long the human intestine is.
Human intestinal length varies among individuals and changes with age. Generally, the total length of the intestine is approximately 4 to 5 times an individual’s height. The intestine is divided into two main parts: the large intestine and the small intestine. The upper end of the small intestine connects to the stomach, while its lower end joins the large intestine; its typical total length ranges from 4 to 6 meters. The small intestine itself consists of three segments: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The duodenum is approximately 25 cm long; the jejunum measures about 1.5–2.5 meters; and the ileum is approximately 2–4 meters in length.
