What should I do about small bumps protruding from the areola?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve noticed numerous small bumps appearing around the areola. What should I do about these raised bumps on the areola?
Small bumps protruding from the areola should first be evaluated by a physician to determine the underlying cause, followed by targeted treatment. If small bumps appear on the breast—particularly along the periphery of the areola and arranged in a circular pattern—they are typically Montgomery tubercles, which represent a normal anatomical feature and require no specific treatment. However, bumps located directly on the nipple constitute abnormal tissue and are likely verrucous (wart-like) growths. Under a physician’s guidance, anti-inflammatory medications may be prescribed for symptomatic relief; in some cases, surgical excision may be necessary.
