Why do hairs grow on moles?
Disease description:
I have a black mole above my mouth. It didn’t have any hair before, but recently I’ve clearly noticed fine hairs growing on it. Why do hairs grow on moles?
It is entirely normal for hair to grow on moles. The human skin contains countless hair follicles, and if a mole is relatively large and happens to overlie one or more of these follicles, hair may grow from the mole. Larger moles tend to cover more hair follicles, thereby increasing the likelihood of hair growth. However, hairs growing from moles should not be repeatedly plucked, as excessive stimulation may potentially increase the risk of malignant transformation; allowing them to grow naturally is generally the safest approach.
