A positive result for *Ureaplasma urealyticum* indicates detection of this organism during testing. This finding is most commonly associated with nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), a relatively common urogenital infection. Typical symptoms of NGU include urinary frequency, increased urethral discharge, and dysuria. Additionally, if *U. urealyticum* invades the female genital tract, it can cause necrosis of mucosal cells and impair the motility of cilia in the fallopian tubes, potentially leading to female infertility.
