Can ultra-high myopia lead to blindness?
Disease description:
My friend has extreme myopia. He can’t see anything at all once he removes his glasses. He’s worried he may go blind and wants to know: Can extreme myopia lead to blindness?
Ultra-high myopia can lead to blindness. This is primarily due to pathological changes that occur following the development of ultra-high myopia—such as retinal detachment, macular atrophy, fundal hemorrhage, and optic nerve abnormalities. These pathological conditions cause severe damage to the eye, resulting in varying degrees of visual impairment and, in severe cases, blindness.
