Disease description:

I’ve always been in good health, but I had a routine medical checkup at the hospital the day before yesterday and found that my gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) level was slightly elevated. What does an elevated GGT level indicate?

Dr. Huang Wenxiang
Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is an important indicator of liver function. Elevated levels may be associated with hepatic diseases such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and cirrhosis, as well as with biliary tract obstruction, cholangitis, and pancreatic disorders. Additionally, chronic heavy alcohol consumption can also lead to increased GGT levels.
