What symptoms occur with a coffee allergy?
Disease description:
I feel like I might be allergic to coffee—my skin becomes itchy every time I drink it. I’d like to know what symptoms may occur with a coffee allergy.
When a patient is allergic to coffee, it can cause a skin rash accompanied by significant pruritus (itching). In more severe cases, patients may experience chest tightness, dyspnea (shortness of breath), and laryngeal edema. Some patients may also develop gastrointestinal symptoms, such as abdominal pain and diarrhea. In extremely rare cases of severe allergy, patients may experience hypotension and even anaphylactic shock.
