What type of inflammation does acute suppurative appendicitis belong to?
Disease description:
My mother has been complaining of abdominal pain for some time, and today the pain suddenly became unbearable. She was diagnosed at the hospital with acute suppurative appendicitis. What type of inflammation is this?
Acute suppurative appendicitis is an acute infectious surgical emergency. It typically results from fecalith-induced obstruction of the appendiceal lumen, leading to sustained elevation of intraluminal pressure, subsequent appendiceal swelling, bacterial infection, and purulent exudate. Without prompt treatment, gangrenous appendicitis may develop, with a high risk of perforation. Post-perforation, severe localized periaappendiceal or generalized intra-abdominal infection can ensue. Once diagnosed, minimally invasive laparoscopic appendectomy is indicated—offering reduced surgical trauma, faster recovery, and relatively fewer complications.
