Is Henoch-Schönlein purpura contagious?
Disease description:
I have been diagnosed with allergic purpura and am concerned about transmitting it to others. Is allergic purpura contagious?
Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is generally non-contagious and does not warrant special concern. While most cases are triggered by infectious factors, allergic reactions or immune system dysfunction may also contribute. The condition typically manifests as subcutaneous hemorrhage and is classified as a hematologic disorder; it is not contagious. Treatment may include loratadine, prescribed by a physician, and cetirizine may also be used to help alleviate symptoms and support recovery.
