Hypochondriasis is generally associated with certain psychiatric disorders; patients with schizophrenia or anxiety disorders may frequently experience various symptoms. Treatment primarily involves psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. If the symptoms are caused by schizophrenia, antipsychotic medications must be used strictly as prescribed by a physician. For anxiety disorders, antidepressants or anxiolytics are appropriate.
