What should I do if I have hiccups all day long?
Disease description:
I don’t know what’s wrong today—I’ve been hiccupping nonstop all day. I’ve tried deep breathing and holding my breath for extended periods, but nothing has helped stop it. What should I do about persistent, unrelenting hiccups?
Persistent hiccups throughout the day may be caused by diaphragmatic spasm. It is recommended to keep the abdomen warm. You may pour a glass of lukewarm water and drink it all at once, which can help alleviate persistent hiccups. If hiccups persist, medications such as metoclopramide may be taken orally under a physician’s guidance to relieve the symptom. Additionally, sudden exposure to cold wind may also trigger persistent hiccups; therefore, it is advisable to dress warmly before going outdoors.
