Symptoms caused by dry skin typically manifest primarily as dryness of the epidermis. For example, the skin may appear dull and lackluster; some areas may become rough and significantly thicker. Dry skin commonly affects the lower legs, arms, and trunk. Frequent associated signs and symptoms include scaling, skin tightness, and pruritus (itching). In more severe cases, patients may develop erythematous patches, fissures, papules, or even hemorrhagic fissures.
