Dr. Zhou Chao
Palmar erythema is one of the most common clinical manifestations in patients with liver cirrhosis. Classic palmar erythema is characterized by punctate cutaneous hyperemia—appearing as red spots or patches—localized to the thenar and hypothenar eminences and the bases of the thumb and little finger. Pressure applied to these areas causes blanching. In patients with liver cirrhosis and other hepatic disorders, palmar erythema arises primarily due to impaired liver function, which disrupts normal hepatic metabolism and leads to systemic metabolic abnormalities.
