Patients with gout can safely consume rice. Rice is a low-purine staple food and does not elevate serum uric acid levels or trigger gout attacks. Therefore, the general dietary principle for gout patients is to follow a low-purine diet. Most staple foods—including rice, millet, starch, and noodles—are low in purines and thus safe for gout patients. Conversely, gout patients should limit intake of high-purine foods such as fatty meats, organ meats (e.g., liver, kidney), and other rich animal products. Additionally, strict abstinence from alcohol is essential for gout patients.
