Gout patients may consume chicken in moderation. Dietary restrictions are common for individuals with gout—for example, beef, lamb, and organ meats should be avoided or consumed sparingly. Purine content varies among different types of meat: seafood, beef, and lamb—especially meat broths—are particularly high in purines. In contrast, other meats such as pork and freshwater fish contain relatively low levels of purines. Like freshwater fish, chicken is classified as “white meat” and contains significantly less purine than red meats (e.g., beef and lamb) or seafood; however, its purine content remains higher than that of low-purine foods such as vegetables and fruits.
