Disease description:

I used to enjoy eating fish, but since being diagnosed with gout, I’ve avoided most seafood. Recently, I’ve been craving mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi) and would like to know: Is it safe for people with gout to eat mandarin fish?

Patients with gout should avoid consuming mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi), as most types of fish, pork, beef, and lamb are high in purines. High-purine foods can elevate serum uric acid levels, potentially triggering gout attacks. Gout is caused by hyperuricemia—elevated serum uric acid—which results either from reduced renal excretion of uric acid or from frequent excessive intake of purine-rich foods. It is recommended to consume more fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement trace elements and vitamins, alkalinize urine, drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous physical labor, and engage in moderate daily exercise to enhance immune function. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
