Can people with gout eat chili peppers?
Disease description:
I love eating chili peppers and add them to almost every dish. However, I’ve recently developed gout and would like to ask: Can people with gout eat chili peppers?
People with gout can eat chili peppers. Chili peppers are a common vegetable and are classified as low-purine foods. Consuming chili peppers does not elevate serum uric acid levels in gout patients and therefore does not adversely affect disease progression. Particularly green chili peppers are rich in vitamin C, providing valuable nutritional benefits for individuals with gout. Patients with gout should primarily avoid high-purine foods—such as animal liver, kidneys, lungs, and other organ meats—as well as shellfish and other shellfish-based seafood.
