What Causes Acne-Like Lesions on the Vulva?
Disease description:
My girlfriend is 20 years old, and we have been sexually active for one year. Recently, I noticed pimples appearing on her external genitalia—could this indicate a serious illness? What causes pimples on the external genitalia?
Acne-like lesions on the vulva are typically caused by folliculitis due to localized bacterial infection, or possibly by inflammation of the sebaceous glands. Daily disinfection with iodophor followed by application of erythromycin ointment usually leads to improvement within one week. If a pimple exhibits marked fluctuation (indicating pus accumulation), incision and drainage may be performed. Women are advised to maintain good vulvar hygiene and care, avoid spicy foods such as chili peppers, ginger, and garlic, refrain from smoking and alcohol consumption, pay attention to dietary habits, and cultivate healthy lifestyle practices.
