How to Remove Closed Comedones
Disease description:
My friend is 18 years old and has recently developed numerous small, barely visible acne lesions on the face—only noticeable when viewed against backlighting. A dermatologist diagnosed them as closed comedones (closed blackheads). What should be done? There are quite a few of them—how can closed comedones be effectively treated?
Closed comedones are a mild form of acne caused by sebum accumulation within hair follicles, leading to pore obstruction. They are typically asymptomatic—neither painful nor itchy. Treatment options include topical application of adapalene gel, tretinoin cream, or tazarotene cream. Patients may also opt for skincare products containing salicylic acid, malic acid, or mandelic acid; however, attention must be paid to the concentration of these acids and the individual’s skin tolerance. Patients are advised to maintain proper daily facial cleansing and follow a light, balanced diet.
