I personally love eating watermelon. Since it’s still summer, I’m thinking of enjoying some watermelon to cool down and relieve summer heat. I’d like to know: Is it safe for people with high uric acid levels to eat watermelon?

Dr. Pan Yongyuan
Patients with hyperuricemia may consume watermelon. Watermelon is an alkaline food and contains no purines; therefore, moderate consumption of watermelon will not exacerbate the condition or elevate serum uric acid levels in patients with hyperuricemia. Moreover, watermelon is highly nutritious and possesses certain medicinal properties. It is rich in vitamin C and various trace elements—including calcium, iron, zinc, and selenium—all of which contribute beneficially to human health and wellness.
