If a baby’s ear is severely swollen due to a mosquito bite, wet compresses with a 3% boric acid solution or normal saline can be applied to the swollen area—these help reduce swelling and inflammation. Compresses may be repeated several times daily to alleviate symptoms. After wet compressing, a topical application of desonide cream or hydrocortisone butyrate ointment may be used to further relieve allergic reactions, inflammation, and swelling, thereby promoting resolution of the lesion. During this time, ensure the baby does not scratch the affected area.
