What Is Eczematous Dermatitis?
Disease description:
Over the past two days, I’ve felt some itching on my abdomen, accompanied by numerous small bumps. The itching worsens the more I scratch. A friend suggested it might be eczematous dermatitis—so, what exactly is eczematous dermatitis?
Eczema is a type of dermatitis that arises from the interplay of intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors include chronic systemic diseases, endocrine disorders, or an atopic (allergic) constitution. Extrinsic factors primarily involve environmental triggers—such as temperature fluctuations (cold or heat) and exposure to allergens. Clinically, eczema typically manifests as pinhead-sized papules arranged in confluent, symmetrically distributed patches, accompanied by pruritus (itching). In severe cases, skin lesions may progress to exudation and erosion.
