Disease description:

I have developed numerous small red rashes on my body, which occasionally itch. My doctor diagnosed them as dyshidrotic eczema, but I cannot recall how they first appeared. I would like to know the underlying causes of dyshidrotic eczema.

Dyshidrotic eczema (pompholyx) arises primarily from impaired sweat excretion, which irritates the skin, as well as from emotional stress and hot weather. It commonly affects the hands and feet, typically resolving spontaneously in winter. Symptoms include itching and a burning sensation. This condition is most frequently observed in adolescents and peaks during the hot summer months. Patients should seek medical attention promptly if symptoms worsen or become bothersome. It is recommended to maintain good hand hygiene to prevent infection—wash hands thoroughly with soap and running water—and avoid contact with strongly alkaline substances such as laundry detergents. A light, bland diet is advised; smoking, alcohol, and spicy or irritating foods should be avoided.
