Can patients with allergic urticaria drink alcohol?
Disease description:
I am 40 years old this year. Recently, I experienced physical discomfort and was diagnosed with allergic urticaria after medical examination. A friend invited me to drink alcohol—may I ask whether it is safe for someone with allergic urticaria to consume alcohol?
Patients with allergic urticaria must avoid alcohol consumption. Alcohol itself causes vasodilation; thus, drinking alcohol can lead to facial flushing or even the appearance of red wheals, thereby worsening urticaria symptoms. Moreover, alcohol suppresses immune function, and immunosuppression is a known trigger for urticaria. Additionally, alcoholic beverages contain additives that may provoke allergic reactions in individuals with allergic constitutions, further exacerbating urticaria. In daily life, patients should maintain a healthy living environment and ensure adequate ventilation.
