Formaldehyde poisoning can be treated in different medical departments depending on the pathological changes involved. If exposed to high concentrations of formaldehyde, inhalation may cause symptoms such as lacrimation, ocular burning pain, and coughing; in such cases, consultation with ophthalmologists and pulmonologists is recommended. Ingestion of formaldehyde—especially if accidental or improper—may lead to severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and other serious symptoms; patients should seek immediate care at the emergency department and may require gastrointestinal decontamination (e.g., gastric lavage) under the guidance of gastroenterologists. Dermatological allergic reactions resulting from skin contact should be evaluated by dermatologists. Chronic formaldehyde poisoning primarily affects the hematopoietic system and warrants referral to a hematology specialist. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
