Why are my hands so itchy?

My hands have been itchy for the past two days, and I’ve had a constant urge to scratch them. What could be causing this hand itchiness?

Itchy hands may be caused by an allergic reaction, eczema, or—less commonly—a fungal infection such as tinea manuum (hand fungus). If the itching is due to an allergy, antihistamine medications—such as cetirizine—may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance. If it results from a fungal infection, topical antifungal treatments—such as terbinafine hydrochloride cream—may be recommended, also under medical supervision.
