What antibiotics should be taken for orchitis?
Disease description:
My boyfriend has orchitis, and it hasn’t improved for quite some time. What antibiotics should be used to treat orchitis?
Penicillin, cephalosporins, and quinolones may be administered under a physician’s guidance. If orchitis is mild—without fever and with only minimal testicular swelling—oral anti-inflammatory antibiotics may suffice. However, in severe cases accompanied by fever, chills, bacteremia confirmed by blood tests, and marked testicular swelling, intravenous antibiotic therapy is required. Orchitis is an inflammation of the testis caused by bacterial infection ascending via the urethra and epididymis.
