How long can a person with cirrhosis live?
Disease description:
This time, I experienced chest pain and went to the hospital for evaluation, where I was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. I would like to know how long a person with liver cirrhosis can live.
If cirrhosis is detected in its early stage, the remaining liver function is often still sufficient to meet the body’s needs—without ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, or upper gastrointestinal bleeding—and patients can generally maintain a normal quality of life.
In cases of advanced cirrhosis without hepatic coma and with mild ascites (volume ≤1000 mL), life expectancy is approximately 10 years.
However, if hepatic coma has already occurred, residual liver function is severely compromised, and the expected survival time is typically only 1–2 years.
