What Are the Treatment Options for Axillary Odor?
Disease description:
I have axillary osmidrosis (body odor), and I dare not wear light, airy clothing in summer because the smell under my arms is extremely unpleasant. What are the available treatments for axillary osmidrosis?
Surgery is a common treatment for axillary osmidrosis (fox odor). The fundamental cause of this condition is excessive secretion from the apocrine glands in the axillae, resulting in abundant sweat production. This moist, warm environment readily promotes bacterial overgrowth, which metabolizes the sweat and produces a pungent, unpleasant odor. The ultimate goal of surgical intervention is to permanently destroy or completely excise the apocrine glands (and associated hair follicles) in the axillae, thereby significantly reducing sweat production in this area.
