Scarring following mosquito bites is typically due to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation at the bite site. Scars resulting from simple bites usually fade spontaneously over time; however, topical depigmenting agents may also be used under a physician’s guidance. Scar fading can also be facilitated through massage: first moisturize the affected area, then gently massage it with fine salt using your fingertips—this helps exfoliate the thickened stratum corneum within the scar and promotes blood circulation and scar absorption. Oral vitamin C supplementation may assist in softening pigmented scars and support the resolution of post-bite hyperpigmentation.
