Disease description:

I recently developed heat rash, which has been unusually itchy and shows no signs of improvement. The itching has been so severe that I’ve scratched my skin until it broke open. I’d like to know how to treat heat rash.

Miliaria (prickly heat) is primarily caused by high temperatures, humidity, and blocked sweat ducts. Once the patient is removed from the hot, humid environment, miliaria typically resolves spontaneously, and aggressive treatment is generally unnecessary. Topical medications—such as calamine lotion and menthol-based preparations—may be applied locally, preferably after bathing. For pustular miliaria, topical ichthammol–calamine lotion may also be tried. During treatment, patients are advised to follow a light, bland diet and avoid spicy or irritating foods.
