A sensation of urinary obstruction requires identification of the underlying cause for effective and lasting relief. When individuals experience a feeling of blockage during urination, along with symptoms such as a narrowed urine stream or straining to void, urinary tract obstruction should be suspected—common causes include urethral stricture or urethral calculi (stones), both of which increase intravesical pressure and lead to obstructive symptoms. Urethral stricture can be treated with urethral calibration (dilation), whereas urethral stones may be managed medically with stone-expelling medications or eliminated via laser lithotripsy.
