Hepatitis A can potentially be transmitted through kissing. The primary transmission routes of hepatitis A are the gastrointestinal tract and the fecal-oral route; thus, it is an infectious disease. Kissing an individual with hepatitis A carries a relatively high risk of transmission. Susceptibility to hepatitis A infection is closely related to an individual’s immune status—those with weakened immunity are more prone to infection. Indirect transmission is also possible, for example, by sharing eating utensils with a person infected with hepatitis A.
