Why does drinking tea cause dry mouth and throat?
Disease description:
My husband doesn’t have many hobbies—just enjoys drinking tea. However, he told me today that recently, whenever he drinks tea, he experiences dry mouth and throat; yet he feels fine when he doesn’t drink tea. I’d like to ask: Why does drinking tea cause dry mouth and throat?
Excessively hot tea, tea polyphenols, and internal heat due to yin deficiency can all cause dry mouth in patients. Symptoms such as dry mouth—even when drinking water—may occur; however, such symptoms typically do not arise with moderate tea consumption over time. Patients may benefit from regularly consuming foods like lotus seeds, tremella (silver ear fungus), mung bean soup, and bitter melon. Additionally, they should drink ample water and limit intake of spicy and greasy foods.
