How long can a person live after being diagnosed with AIDS?
Disease description:
A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. He only informed us afterward, saying that the condition is incurable and can affect one’s lifespan. How long can a person live after being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS?
The time until HIV infection progresses to AIDS cannot be precisely predicted; however, without prompt and effective treatment, life expectancy will be adversely affected. Generally, with appropriate antiretroviral therapy initiated after HIV infection—and assuming no significant drug-related adverse effects occur—life expectancy may remain largely unaffected. Conversely, if treatment response is suboptimal or complications arise during therapy, life expectancy may be directly and significantly reduced.
