Low back pain in renal cancer may result from tumor growth, as the expanding tumor can stretch the renal capsule. It may also stem from intratumoral necrosis or hemorrhage, or from ureteral obstruction caused by tumor involvement—any of which can lead to flank pain. When pain is severe, analgesics such as acetaminophen with codeine or sustained-release ibuprofen capsules may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance. For malignant renal tumors, prompt surgical resection at a hospital is essential. Postoperatively, adjuvant chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy are typically required.
