Can amoxicillin be taken after a mosquito bite?
Disease description:
My arm is itchy and painful after being bitten by a mosquito. I’m considering taking amoxicillin—can amoxicillin be used for mosquito bites?
It is generally safe to take amoxicillin after a mosquito bite. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic with anti-inflammatory properties. Scratching the bite site with your hands may lead to local inflammation; taking amoxicillin can help reduce inflammation and prevent widespread local infection. If itching is severe following a mosquito bite, fluocinonide ointment may also be applied topically for itch relief. Amoxicillin should always be taken strictly as prescribed by a physician.
