Can people with high blood sugar eat whole wheat bread?
Disease description:
I often eat whole-wheat bread in the morning, but after being diagnosed with diabetes, I’m hesitant to eat it freely. I’d like to know: Can people with high blood sugar consume whole-wheat bread?
Individuals with high blood glucose can consume whole-wheat bread, as it contains significantly fewer calories and sugars compared to regular white bread, while providing substantially higher levels of dietary fiber and crude fiber. It also supplies essential micronutrients, protein, calcium, and other nutrients required for normal bodily functions—thereby enhancing satiety, replenishing nutrition, promoting bowel movements, and aiding in blood glucose control. However, portion size must be appropriately adjusted. To improve taste, some whole-wheat breads may contain added sugar, cream, or butter—ingredients that are relatively high in energy—so total intake should be carefully controlled.
