Can I eat an apple at midnight if I have high blood sugar during pregnancy?
Disease description:
I am currently seven months pregnant, and my overall health is normal, except for slightly elevated blood glucose levels. Sometimes I feel hungry at night and would like to eat an apple. May I eat an apple at night during pregnancy if I have high blood sugar?
Pregnant women with elevated blood sugar levels can consume apples in moderation. If a pregnant woman does not have gestational diabetes and her oral glucose tolerance test results fall within the normal range—meaning her elevated blood sugar is mild and isolated—she may eat apples. However, apples do contain natural sugars; therefore, it is advisable to avoid consuming large quantities at once. Instead, apples should ideally be eaten as a snack between meals, with each serving limited to half an apple or less.
