How long can a patient with pulmonary tuberculosis live?
Disease description:
My grandfather recently experienced chest tightness and severe coughing. After examination, the doctor diagnosed him with tuberculosis (TB). He is deeply worried about his life expectancy—how long can a person with TB live?
Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis can live to approximately 75 years of age; however, life expectancy depends specifically on the severity of the disease and whether standardized treatment is received. Early detection, early diagnosis, early intervention, and early treatment are strongly recommended for pulmonary tuberculosis. If the disease is identified early and symptoms are mild, adherence to standardized medical treatment typically leads to full recovery without impacting life expectancy. Conversely, delayed diagnosis and untimely treatment may adversely affect longevity.
