What are the symptoms of diarrhea in liver cirrhosis?
Disease description:
I have been diagnosed with cirrhosis. My appetite has noticeably declined compared to before, and I occasionally experience diarrhea. What symptoms are associated with diarrhea in cirrhosis?
One of the most common symptoms of liver cirrhosis is diarrhea. In patients with cirrhosis, portal hypertension leads to intestinal mucosal edema, impairing digestion and nutrient absorption. This results in elevated intestinal osmotic pressure, thereby triggering diarrhea. Additionally, bacterial overgrowth frequently occurs in the intestines of cirrhotic patients, further compromising digestion and stimulating accelerated intestinal motility, which exacerbates diarrhea.
