Disease description:

Over the past few days, I’ve experienced severe pain around my anus. I suspected it was a perianal abscess, but after visiting the hospital for evaluation, the diagnosis was a furuncle (boil). What are the visual differences between a perianal abscess and a furuncle?

Differences in appearance between perianal abscesses and furuncles (boils) are as follows: A perianal abscess presents with localized skin elevation and symptoms of redness, swelling, warmth, and pain. Its primary associated symptom is constipation. In contrast, a furuncle typically arises from a follicular infection, exhibits well-defined borders, and usually responds to antibiotic therapy with resolution of symptoms. However, furuncles do not cause constipation. Patients are advised to seek evaluation based on their specific symptoms.
