Pregnant women with constipation may moderately consume watermelon. Watermelon contains abundant water, which helps soften stools, reduce intestinal burden, and alleviate constipation. Additionally, it contains dietary fiber that promotes intestinal motility and facilitates bowel movements. However, watermelon is considered “cold” in nature; thus, pregnant women should avoid excessive consumption to prevent diarrhea, which may adversely affect fetal development. In particular, during the first or third trimester, overconsumption of watermelon may increase the risk of threatened miscarriage or preterm labor.
