Today, while examining my wisdom teeth in the mirror, I noticed small black spots on the inner lining of my mouth. What could be causing these small black spots on the oral mucosa?

Small black spots on the inner lining of the mouth may result from irritation of the oral mucosa or from bruising caused by biting the mucosa. In long-term smokers, such black spots may also appear on the inner cheek or oral mucosa. If a patient develops numerous black spots or notices that existing spots are enlarging, prompt medical evaluation is recommended.
