How is candidal balanoposthitis treated?
Disease description:
My uncle’s glans penis is red and swollen. After visiting the hospital for examination, the doctor diagnosed him with candidal balanoposthitis. How is candidal balanoposthitis treated?
Fungal balanitis is typically caused by a fungal infection and is generally treated through disinfection and a combined internal–external therapeutic approach. Treatment usually involves cleansing the affected area with potassium permanganate or povidone-iodine, followed by thorough drying and topical application of anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial agents—such as erythromycin ointment or mupirocin ointment. Oral antibiotics may also be prescribed. Sexual intercourse must be avoided during treatment to prevent cross-infection.
