What Causes Constipation After Bladder Cancer Surgery?
Disease description:
My grandfather developed constipation after undergoing bladder cancer surgery. What are the possible causes of constipation following bladder cancer surgery?
Postoperative constipation in bladder cancer patients may result from prolonged immobility after surgery or from radiotherapy and chemotherapy medications. Prolonged inactivity following surgery can slow gastrointestinal motility, leading to constipation. As the patient’s condition improves, increasing physical activity can enhance gastrointestinal motility and alleviate constipation. Additionally, radiotherapy and chemotherapy drugs used in cancer treatment may suppress gastrointestinal function, thereby causing constipation.
