How to Treat Recurrent Mouth Ulcers
Disease description:
My daughter has been repeatedly developing mouth ulcers recently, causing severe pain and disrupting her sleep at night. I’d like to ask the doctor: How should recurrent oral ulcers be treated?
Recurrent oral ulcers are typically managed through medications, adequate rest, and maintaining good oral hygiene. The principles of local treatment include anti-inflammatory action, pain relief, prevention of secondary infection, and promotion of healing; accordingly, anti-inflammatory agents, analgesics, and caustic agents may be used. For ulcers that persist for an extended period or cause significant pain, submucosal injection therapy (i.e., corticosteroid injection into the ulcer base) may be performed.
