If a child develops coughing after eating ice cream, and this is due to irritation of the mucosal cells in the pharynx caused by cold foods, it is recommended to discontinue consumption of ice cream and other cold-natured foods immediately. However, if exposure to cold foods triggers an allergic reaction in the pharynx—resulting in worsening pain even after stopping ice cream intake—consultation with a qualified physician is advised; treatment may include antiallergic medications such as loratadine syrup. Avoid giving children cold-natured foods like ice cream.
